Topics:
"Combatting the Global Rise of Neo-Nazism" and "Combatting Racism, Xenophobia, and Related Intolerance"
Topic Summary:
Topic A:
Extremist ideologists stemming from Neo-Nazism have gained global traction and influence in recent years. This fascist revival has arisen from online radicalization, youth recruiting, hate speech, economic instability, and the manipulation of historical perspectives. Neo-Nazist groups promote hatred, racial supremacy, antisemitism, and other forms of intolerance, threatening the communal safety and moral values. Despite international conventions, laws and programs against hate groups, challenges remain in enforcement, international agreements and finding a balance between fighting extremism and protecting the freedom of expression.
Topic B:
Racism and xenophobia remain persistent global issues, affecting millions of people worldwide through systematic discrimination, hate crimes and unequal access to rights and opportunities. Refugees and those escaping scenes of violence in particular are more vulnerable to suffer from racial attacks and stereotypes. Hate speech is a major issue in this topic; the amount of anonymous access in social media is a major source of misinformation. It is usual for a part of society to believe the claims made by hate groups online. This plays a role in the worldwide spread of racist issues, which can affect many in unfair and dangerous ways.
